Reel identification

Post by Tony Malatesta »

:?: Hi guys! Need some help identifing a reel. It looks like any standard Shakespeare or Pfleuger levelwind reel. All metal construction. 2 jewelled caps that serve no purpose, they just screw on and are not oiling ports. The front faceplate has an etching of a shoreline with a large bass with a hook in its mouth. Other than that there are no markings or country of origin written on the reel. HELP :? :?

:D 8)  Some of the (early reals used the jewled eye covers to dress the reel up and stand out from other reels ,if you take the cap off you will or should see a concave circle going frome outside to inside and that is where the spool rides , the covers were just that dust covers, although some folks filled them with UGG! grease, as Harvy said please do a pic of the reel, 1 end view each end showing the cap and again with the cap off, then a top view, bottom view then a handle view and end plate tail with the caps on , someone , more than likey several folks will Identify the reel also are the plates all metal or posibly a composite hard rubber plate? The WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW! your cold OHIO conection Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG

Hee Hee Hee, Jim said it looks like a Bronson. Bronson, Bronson, Bronson. We made everything, everything I say.

Actually I agree. Probably a trade reel.

COLLECTORABLE! O,Rouke uses them for pillow stuffing! I was gonna tell you who made it when I posted it but didn't want to steal Dave's thunder. See, it is lonely during the dead of winter in Bronson! Then Madden went and tinkled on the fire!

:) :o :? 8) :!: :?:   Ok it has BRONSON overlays , the foot typical of a trade reel the clicker buton is devently Bronson, the handle is Bronson however not their up scale one, The diagram thats typical bronso anf their J.C. HIGGINS reels use it also see a model 30 higgins! also your reel has some #2550 Mucury click buttonamd the presed in engraving! now the puzzel for me is the BEARING CAP, and being jewled on a low end reel that cap has sever difinative SOUTH BEND resmblances! For all practical thoughts its a BRONSON! Clean it and lube it and fish it! ORRRRR just clean and lube and set it up to be admired! Col. M. lorens aka SWIM JIG in a darn cold OHIO burrrr 5 above!

:) :? 8) :!:  :?: Ok guys thoose bearing caps bothered me soooo out came a box of reels, the same cap was or is used on the Pikie no 2525 The W.Bingham co. CLEVELAND no state HOWEVER the Bingham co was centered in the Cleveland OHIO area. Also the handle is Bronson, TRADE REEL? Now several others in the box< all use the same click buton as Bronson and same style of handle except the color of the knobs. 1 Mohawk reel co, #1645, Pelicon2 Uncle Tom 3 Shapleighs Pilot #SD32 modle b 4Anniversary A30 4 South Bend #20, now were these trade reels? as the parts are the same or off shoots of bronson as a deversion so buyers thought they were getting a different company? a way to sell more product. To Dave o,Rourke I make this offer, as I have several boxes of these things Would you like to come to the (RAT HOLE) and do some research? Where do I get them? Closed or out of business tackle shops , auctions , stores , shows yard sale etc, to us any reel with a decent handle and bearing caps is worth at least $2.00 after 28 years of this the pile is growing well just like mushrooms except the are hard to chew!
