Fly reel research again! Pic

Post by Jim Madden »

The three South Bend (Shakespeare made) fly reels pictured are the #1105A (bottom), #1110C (left), and the 1115B (right). The different numbers just denote the three spool sizes. The model letters, however, mark identifiable design changes. I think I know what the changes are by having one example of each letter, but I can't be sure. I just need some confirmation. I don't need to see the #1115 (no letter suffix) nor the #1110D, but if you have a #1105 (no suffix), #1105B, #1105C, #1110 (no letter suffix), #1110A, #1110B, #1115A, or #1115C, I'd like to see them or at least get your descriptions for my research. Of course, I'd buy one if it were for sale and 8/8 or better. It is even possible that these models don't exist, but that would be unlike the pattern seen in the baitcasters. I know you'll have to do some digging to help, but I appreciate your time very much. Jim

Dunno what others are experiencing, Jim, but I can't see the pics with either of two browsers. It's probably the AOLness of the location. Why not just upload them to the ORCA server?

Don't know much about those South Bend models but the appear to be generally similar to a Shakespeare 1864 Au Sable

Here you go, I think you needed a file extension on the pic

Image The file needed an extension on it to work right.

Question:

How can a guy be called an "Advanced Board Poster" if it takes him 5 tries to get a picture to appear? By the Way, it was 82 degrees here in CA today and the salmon are biting in our local reservoir! Cheers, Alan

Five tries

Post by Jim Madden »

Hey, Baracco, that means "advanced" in years - another name for geezerism! I should get some credit for determination, anyway. Thanks, Homergreg! Yes, they are modeled after the Au Sable. Now, who can help me with those models?

knuckle buster handles!

Post by SWIM JIG »

:) :? 8) :P  :?:   cool-thumb Jim, those are the shortest handles I have seen on a Fly Reel? looks more like a childs cane pole reel, I have several new in the bok Shakespere handles off 1810 closed face Shakespers rthat will fit! Also you ypung whippersnaper I got kids older than you! so dont use that as a excuse! ha ha ho I still am puzzeld at those handles, could they be somting someone put on because the real ones were missing ? or was it for a lower gear ratio? Col.M. lorens aka SWIM JIG in a COLD OHIO it stoped snowing!

Handles

Post by Jim Madden »

Milt, those are the factory handles. The small reel handle is only 3/4" from the center of the nut to the center of the knob. The other two are 1". The spool is recessed inside so the knob is really near the end of the spool. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the retrieve. I agree, they do look miniature. If you were complaining about those Wanitas being to small for your hand, you'd never be able to find the handle on that bottom reel in the picture. As for the Geezer in me, 2 days before I arrive in Texas I will have moved into that last age category in the survey. You could make it a memorable birthday if you could find me one of the reels listed below.
Jim
