Pflueger Medalist help needed

Post by gadabout »

I recently acquired a Pflueger Medalist 1494. Based on the information I found at the following website http://orcaonline.org/images/pixel.gif? ... toryII.htm, it appears to be a 50's era Medalist.

It is set up for right hand wind. I wanted to switch it to left hand wind, but apparently the reels from this era were not reversible as on later models. I took the reel apart and found that the ratchet ring has four detents on one side and eight detents on the other side. I thought it might be reversible so I tried flipping it over. No good. The brass thing that holds down the ratchet does not seat fully when you flip it over. I'm a bit puzzled as to why there are detents on both sides and why one side has four and the other eight.

I suppose I can buy a ratchet ring somewhere that can be set up for left hand wind. Can anyone give me a source? Thanks!

please note, the man has been dissed on this bulletin board for the manufacture of metal latch cover plates with original makers detail.
He's got your part.
