Reel News Authors to be Thanked

Post by Dale Noll »

Topic for Board of Directors consideration.

How about a Holiday for all the Writers who spent hours and hours preparing articles for the Reel News. Somehow, these persons should be rewarded by the general membership. Could I suggest that Article Authors should be freed from annual dues.

I cannot be present at the Convention, but if there is a possibility that this can be proposed, I do hereby submit as a Motion.

Any Seconds?

Thank you.

Reel News compensation

Dale--While money can be a 'carrot' to some I don`t think it`s a good
idea. I`d rather bask in the 'glory' of seeing something I wrote in the
mix with other member contributors. Free memberships ? A vote ?

Folks, just a reminder that this is an ORCA-sponsored chat board that is open to the public, and that's all it is. Any ORCA member in good standing can make a motion at the Annual Meeting or can email or write the President and other Board members. You can ask someone else to second at the same time. Make all the proposals you want here, but these postings are not official motions that the Board can, or even should, consider.

First of all, a great big thanks go out to the members that spend time to put the information together for an article. I don't agree with a membership to those who contribute. I do agree that some, such as Steve, Phil, Stu, Milt, Bob and others do deserve a free ride for what they do or have done for the betterment of the club but I don‘t think it should be in the form of membership. For those that don’t know, it is a practice to reward the contributors with a monetary fee for articles that appear in the ‘Reel News”. You would have to refer that question as to the amount to Phil as he is the editor.
As for the recognition of these people that do contribute, maybe by expanding the definition of the Honorary Members category or a category of something new should be considered for these people. I am sure that if contacted, the producers of this research and writings will tell you they do it for the love of the hobby. I myself don’t believe that is enough but don’t have an answer for it. The best way to be heard is put together a list of suggestions and present them to our president. A discussion is always healthy and we have a national coming up.
Just a string of thoughts,

Just to be able to write with the PROS and knowing in some small way it helps that is reward enough! If you paid me I would have to declare it on my taxes, and I despise taxes with a pasion! You can bet your best reel if I didnt enjoy it I wouldnt do it! Are we always so set on money that we cannot do somethig for the joy of doing it? Why waste our knowledge as unless we put it down on paper , when we go to that big Trout stream in the sky ITS lost forever! A free RIDE? why, we dont need it! get paid? not me . It may well be they would OUT SORCE us like all the other JOBS? If I dont take a pay I dont have any bosses telling me what to do___ AH yes thats nice! Seems to me that the folks who do all he really great work deserve some highfives. Hope the Board will take a positive step to design some new type of recognition.

Dale: I understand you and others wanting to recognize those who have written all the fine articles that have appeared in The Reel News over the years. Most are paid more than the value of a membership for their contributions. There have been several who have returned their checks. I believe that many appreciate the recognition they receive for their expertese and enjoy contributing. Perhaps the best thing that our members could do is to send a letter, email, or make a phone call to an writer who contributes an article that you enjoy. I'm sure that would be very satisfying to most of them.

Reward

Post by Brian F. »

Dale, Phil is right. The best reward I got was hearing others tell me that they enjoyed the articles I had done and found them interesting / informative.
