why the #s?

Post by SWIM JIG »

:) :? 8) :?:  cool-thumb  USA Ok , while attempting to find a Ky style reel of pfluger decent , I took the front cover off my pfluger Buckeye and on the inside cover and the gear plate the #s 136 are rather deeply stamped! no other #s anywhere on the reel, Just says Pflueger then the( BULL DOG PIC) with words TRADE MARK under that is Buckeye on the foot is 60. has jewled bearing covers, both ends it has 2 butons on the front one is the click the other is a rather nice friction on the spool, The finish looks like a the GERMAN SILVER over brass, spool looks like a copper color plated over with german sliver, the gears are stright rather than spiral cut. over all lenght is by a wooden ruler 2&1/4 in by 2in across width of spool is 1&3/4 in has a conter bal handle. I have had this reel from 1944 , its one I didnt turn in to the scrap drive! again its these well stamped #s 136 , is that a modle # or assembly # OR? any imformation will be appreciated. I intend to use it in casting contest as there is No levelwind to get in the way! Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG in a warming OHIO

Serial number or not

Milt, see this discussion about those mysterious numbers inside of Pflueger reels:

Some of the hard rubber plated ones have the numbers inscribed by hand too.

Numbers

Post by Jim Madden »

Milt, Bob Miller is the guy to talk to. He and I were discussing an early Worth that had a patent number on the tailplate that wasn't seen on that reel before. Bob had me check the 3 digit numbers inside to see if they matched, and sure enough, they did not. A Redifor tailplate had evidentally been used to fill a Worth order presumably when correct parts were out. It wasn't an uncommon practice for a lot of companies. The numbers must have been an assembly safeguard, but check with Bob. Jim
