Brass freckels

Post by Gary B »

Have tried the white vinegar soak to remove saltwater damage frome a plated reel. Is there a way to cover the brass spots left where the plateing is gone? Thanks Gary

:( :!: :?:  :bash: :type: USA Gary, the only way would be to have it replated, ( or paint it) you have done about all you can ,at least the salt is off, however do a close look at the reel with a magnfing glass, those brass items may be very brittle or worn out. If the reel is a keep sake then take it to a plater, or a jewler and get theor advise and at what cost! If it holds no real value to you and you just want to set it up then use a light coat of silicon or teflon based grease and lightly coat it by rubing the lube into the metal, Or just go fishing with the reel, as the damage is done!
