I've had no luck finding information on this reel. Anyone?

Re: Garcia Mitchell 404
More than likely because they never manufactured a 404 model.

I checked that, as well as the books by Ben and Dennis. And yet, there is such a reel.

Pictures?

Sorry, I don't have it here. It's dark blue, medium size, with a right-hand retrieve.

You will have to prove it with a photo before I would even consider the possibility that one was ever made. Right hand retrieve would end with an odd number.

Thanks for your help.
If you don't know, you don't know. There's no need to be insulting.

There is a 403 listed on ebay. It's blue and RH crank.
Re: Garcia Mitchell 404
I realize this is an old post but I have some info
I was absolutely positive I had the 404 in question
Went to take a photo and upon blowing it up I saw that the last number was not a 4 but rather a 1 that looked like a 4 to the naked eye due to the little dash in front of it.
Kind of a buzzkill, thought I had something special

Re: Garcia Mitchell 404
HA! I believe you may have solved the mystery of the imaginary Garcia Mitchell 404. That's probably what "fishstuff" presumed, too. Some 401 etchings like the one below had a hyphen/line between the numbers "4-0-1". The 401, BTW, is a right hand retrieve version of the 400. If it was well worn or had a scratch in the right place the 1 may have looked like a 4. Bottom line, though, is a model 404 was never produced by Mitchell.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
