WTB 1940's Fly Reel

Post by cegibbs3 »

I recently had my father's old split bamboo fly rod restored (Montague Clipper) and now I need a reel for it. The guy who restored the rod told me that I'd need a reel in the size range of a Pflueger 1494 1/2 or 1495 if I wanted it to be balanced correctly. I've seen many of these reels on ebay but, I really don't know if they're right for the job. Another consideration is that I prefer a left hand retrieve on all my reels (bait casters, spinning, and spin cast) even though I'm right handed. Can anybody help me out here? Does anyone have a reel for sale from the 1940's in excellent condition that fits these requirements? I will be fishing with it weekly and the fish size varies (stocker's to 15 lbs) in my neck of the woods. The reel is for show and go! Thanks!
