My field find for the day, no marks, looks like an early Miesselbach surf reel. It's all brass, no plating. What do ya think? Thanks, Jim.
Is this a Miesselbach???

Make that a trolling reel...
yeh, of course, you are right, trolling reel, I can't spell either. Meiselbach, there.
Jim,
Believe you have a Pflueger trolling reel. If you clean the edge of the outer rim on the handle side about half way between nobs, you should find "Pflueger Taxie No. 3128 Made in USA" . Also, you may find a single letter "B" on both plates nearby when viewing from the handle side.
See KWhite 230-0336. circ 1936. value $150?
Good luck with your find!

Found it
Pflueger Captain. No marks on it any where. I looked at the Sal trout, but didn't go far enough. Thanks.

Anyone have any dates of man. on these
White's book says 1910, just wondering how long they were made. The double line guide gives it away, I think. Pflueger Captain. Jim.

In the Mar 2001 Reel News, Bob Miller reviews these Trolling reels in some detail. Seems like all the reels have been numbered and marked. Some with the 4 Bro trademark. This article has been printed in the new Pflueger Facts book just printed last month by Phil White.
A few excerts from Jim's article: ".. The Captain 1st appeared in 1928.."
In the 1948 Catalogue ...noted the Captain as "Not available until further notice" ...however...reappearance in 1953 of the Captain as Model 4128,...but in1955 apparently the last Captain had been sold.. and never reappeared after that". ( Note: Some conflicting Model numbers as Model 4128 was also the Model number for the Monarch in 1928.)
Your original idea that the reel might be Meisselbach is interesting. ...Because Enterprise acquired rights to the Meisselbach patent in the mid 1920's, and ...Craig Barber proposed that since Gus Meisselbach's nickname was Captain,... maybe EA Pflueger used the name Captain in his honor...
Hope this helps you with your reel. Hope you can find some Model marks to clarify some of the fuzz.
