Scarce Ambassadeur from a Facebook visitor to the ORCA page

Post by Paul M »

A fellow with the Facebook name Shire Squyres posted an interesting item on our ORCA promotional Facebook page that I wanted to bring to everyone's attention within Reel Talk. He was advised it is a rare and valuable model of the Ambassadeur reel. He also indicated the condition is excellent. I showed this picture to a friend of mine who knows Ambassadeur reels and he said it might be one of the limited quantity that were sold by Bass Pro in the 1970's, thus indeed rare. We just have the one picture shown to go by for now but hopefully it is enough to have a discussion. Shire would probably like some confirmation that it is a rare item. I will invite him and other Ambassadeur enthusiasts to come and see the discussion here and perhaps join ORCA as a result.

I am pretty sure it's a 5500 CDL. 1976/77. produced for the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. Page93 "The Ambassadeur and I", Shimomura. Simon's description is well worth a read. 500 units were made. It should have a teak box with it. 14ct. plating.
