All Ausable. I have an Inglis model that folks may not have seen before. I'll post later.

Inglis Shakespeare Ausable fly reel Re: What do these 3 reels and friend Al Stover have in common?

Colby:
I just acquired this at the CAFTA show last week and am about to look it over for cleaning and adjustment of the racking and to find a replacement for the missing screw. It should clean up nicely. Note the Inglis marks on the backplate as well as under the foot. I'll keep my eyes open for more but I gather these are not that easy to find. The fellow that sold it to me has been a very active tackle picker in Southern Ontario for more than a decade and he said he had never seen one before. They look pretty new so many are probably still in service. Code "GD" is 1947 but I would guess this design was made for years after that first year of production.

BTW- It is nice to hear that more people are interested in finding Inglis varieties of Shakespeare reels. I have a bunch but this is my only Ausable.

Now that I have stripped off the (totally wrong) line, I see a cork lined arbor and am relieved that the stiffness is due to lack of maintenance. It is not racked after all :)

Argh.. it is a parts reel. The front plate has been dented in multiple planes, skewing the bushing that holds the bearing, the internal drag flange has been broken off and the missing screw on the foot is actually a broken off screw that I can't reverse out, LOL. Anyway it will make a great placeholder while I search for a better specimen.
