The most extensive I have found resides in 6 paragraphs of "A.J. Campbells Classic & Antique FLY-FISHING TACKLE" published by
Lyons & Burford Hard Cover and sell for about $50 if still in print.

Walkers of yore

Post by JeffK »

We carried them in the store I worked in 30 years ago. At that time they were pricey at $200 +/- per copy and I'll bet we didn't sell 10 of 'em per year. Walker was a bit slow filling our orders but we never ran out. Sad to say, I didn't take advantage of that fact and scoop a few up since I've seen silly prices being paid for them lately ($1200?).
I've neither owned nor fished one but my recollection is that were pretty light for their overall size, and they had a good drag system. They were nice but IMHO a good vom Hofe in the same size is a better reel.
Campbell's book has been out in soft cover for a couple of years and you can pick it up for under $20 on ebay these days. It's time to buy it if you don't have it.
