This Arjon Fighter with case in great condition just arrived in the mail. While there are some nicks and rubs to the ivory painted rims, it appears to be debris free and possibly un-used.
If you have never seen one of these operate before the two-vertical bars forming the line guide are designed to split apart and float off their base during certain operations. The various parts of the line guide sub-assembly re-assemble themselves when a complete sweep is made. I need to track down an operations guide to understand the rationale for doing that. Whatever, it is very cool to see for the first time.
It will be interesting to see the split in action. One would think that it would reduce line guide friction and increase casting distance if they split during the cast.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels!(Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
Yes, Tom, that is what I read. When the spool release button is depressed, the base of the line guide disengages from the line guide bars and then the vertical bars are free to slide left/right for casting.... but they don't jump to the sides. It is just that there is nothing holding them together in that mode. As I said before, it all comes back together upon rewinding one full sweep of the spool. My example appears to have no clicker and no anti-reverse! I assume that is the way it was designed but I need to investigate further. I made a low-res video that illustrates the feature.
