The World's First 3D Printed Spinning Reel!

Check out Michael Hackney's latest invention, the first 3D printed spinning reel! Click the link below to see photos (there's a video linked as well).

It's pretty cool, and maybe the wave of the future!

Only the beginning. Once the price comes down on 3D printers things will really change. Need a reel part you can't find? Make one with a 3D printer. They are really going to take off and using 3D printers will enable almost anyone to put their idea into production.

One of the cool things about 3D printers is they can replicate themselves!!

While it is possible to 3D print the plastic parts of another 3D printer, it isn't possible to 3D print all of its electronics (YET) .
24th Century Star Trek Replicators may not be far away though.
When we attain the ability to actually atomize things then reassemble in different forms then look out ?

I find it pretty interesting. For at least 2 or 3 years I've been touting their utilization for many plastic parts. I've been wanting to get one to replace UV deteriorated and obsolete plastic parts on many of the collectible old spinning reels.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

One of our local reel gurus has been using his printer to produce fishing lures, and handle knobs.
