Reel Guess

Post by Paul M »

Here is a view of a reel that recently appeared in a Facebook Group show & tell. I'll let you try to figure out what it is before I post a picture of the side plate. The story is pretty interesting. (Not my reel, NFS).

It is a brass Meek & Milam #2 (with correctly numbered screws!). The owner in KY said that his "grand-papa" knew the jeweller that made it and that the reel had been handed down through his family from before the civil war. If he checks his messages he will find one from me that suggests he drive a few hours to see the KY reel display at the Capitol Museum in Frankfort, including the lathe that made the pillars on his reel.
