Hurd supercaster
Hurd supercaster
I have a Hurd Super Caster I just received an original case for pole but it is to short for my rod. Did they make different size cases? I know that the Hurd came in different lengths. Or was pole design to break down to fit? I am thinking there are different size cases as breaking down rod is not an easy task. I just may have a case to sell it is in great shape.
Any help?

Re: Hurd supercaster
I'm pretty sure I have the original case for my Supercaster, but it seems a couple inches short of zipping up. I think they shrink. I wonder if others have this issue and if there is fix?

They are all that way. After ten years, i finally figured out that if you separated tip and reel/butt sections, the two would nest into the case okay. You still have to turn the reel/handle the right way for proper fit.
I used to blame it on Hurd's idiot son-in-law who screwed up the order for cases!

Same here. I have had several of each and I never had one fit without breaking the rod down!

John is correct... The rod and reel were never meant to go into the case in one piece. If you open the mouth of the case, you will find a pouch on each side of the backbone. Those pouches were for the rods. I think you could store 6 rods (3 in each side pouch). The reel would then be placed in the pouch wooden handle first and the snout to the zipper tab.
Those rod pouches are a thin cloth that may appear to be a liner but are meant to hold the rods. I have pouches for most of my Hurds and have replaced the backbone with a 4 ft. aluminum rod to keep it stiff. I also have re-popped the rod cases and some short cases to store the reel if you don't have a rod. Those were well known to shrink up with age.
