Clicker on Shakespeare Marhoff 1964 GE

Post by mrbiggfish »

I was wondering if there is a way to fix the metal ring on this reel that the clicker, goes into? It is bent on both ends that the clicker goes between. It doesn't look that bad in the picture, but I bent it back into place with pliers, the clicker part keeps popping out though.
Thanks

Once you get the spring ring straight and laying correctly on the plate you may be able to repeen the pawl rivet a little so there isn't as much play in and out. It looks, in the picture, like the pawl is riding over the spring. That should help quite a bit unless the pawl is worn and beveled on the back side.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Also if the radius is too great where you re-bent the end of the spring it will ride over the top of the click.

Looks like a Pflueger tail plate and not a Marhoff. No matter tho, I agree with Tom and Don. With a little tweeking you should be able get her good.

The ends of the spring are supposed to be bent out away from the side plate at 90 degrees.

Thank you for the replies guys, I think I might have it tweeted enough now . The Marhoff is in pretty good shape otherwise. I'm going to give it a good cleaning and see how it comes out.
