two old reels

Post by Whisler »

My grandfather has two reels that have been sitting in his basement for a very long time but he is not entirely sure how long for either of them.

One is an old PENN PEER reel No. 109, it has never been used and is in perfect condition.

The other reel is a Shakespeare President No. 1970, Model GD. this reel has some wear and has bee used afew times, many many years ago.

If any one has any information about how old these reels might be that would be greatly appreciated, but my grandfather also would like to know how much these are worth so if anyone may have an idea on how much these would be to a collector that would also be helpfull. thank you.

Your grandfather has some nice reels but they are common and do not have unusual value. The Shakespeare likely dates back to the 40's. I can't tell you much about the Penn 109 without seeing it. If you do a search on ebay, you're likely to find dozens of these reels offered for sale each and every week.

The total value of the two reels is probably less than $100.00. If he has the boxes and paperwork, it's possible they're worth a bit more. But again, they're nice to have and perhaps a member of the family would like to hang onto them.

Best of luck to you.
