Ted Williams Casting Reels

Post by LEF »

Does anyone know about Ted Williams casting reels? I can't find the one I have in any lists. It is made in the USA and has only the roman numeral IV on the non cranking side. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Lee

Hi Lef,

There should be a number imprinted on the side plate, if the number has not worn off. If the first three digits of that number begin with 535, which I suspect that it does, then your reel was made by Shakespeare. I am not well versed on the line of Ted Williams bait cast reels but Shakespeare made various spin & spincast reels with the roman numeral IV. Without a picture it is difficult to determine what particular model your Ted Williams reel is. That's about all I can tell you, but maybe someone else can fill in some of the gaps. Randy

FSREPAIR,
You are absolutely right. It is on the inside of the plate on the handle side. The number is:
535311921 EN
It was on the inside of the right hand side of the plate. It looks like a 430 though. Thanks so much. Kind Regards Lee

Lee, One more thing I can tell you about your reel. The letters EN are a manufacturing date code Shakespeare used and EN designates the year 1968. Randy
