Harvey, Pfor what it's worth, I believe the 1944 didn't actually have a name but David Percival's article "From Adams to Worth" had them first listed in the 1963 catalog. He was apparently not able to tell when it disappeared because he didn't have a complete set of catalogs for the following years. I'm sure others can fill in more about this mysterious little reel.
cool-thumb yay-banana USA Dont be to certain they are only brass, I have one that has been GOLD PLATED, I showed it to Phil in gatlinburg in 2000 at the winter show! I have several others that are all brass and another that the gold is wearing very thin! Boy does that spool make a person BLINK and the foot has nice gold on it Some gold is worn off on the sideplates and the handle! Its not for sale or trade DONT ask! Now look harder Harvy! you will find one! Brian the rectangular box on the head plate has the words and Numbers No. 1944 on top is the word PFLUGER slanted towards the level wind and under the rectangular box with No. 1944 is Made in USA Not a bad reel or few of them!
