Fin-nor Wedding Cake Fly Reel

Post by hockey 12589 »

I have a new, never-used Fin-Nor reel I believe referred to as a Wedding Cake Reel. It is solid brass and is in mint condition having never been used or in the water. It appears to have been date stamped 1949. Any idea as to its value?

Hi.

Your reel is not brass. It is anodized aluminum, I believe.

What size is it:

1
2
3
4

The way I understand it, and correct me please, there were very few #4 wedding cakes made. The #4 was made using mostly #3 components and just was not strong enough. All of the wedding cake reels command good dollars. You can identify a wedding cake by the side plate build up similar to a layer cake. Graduated so to speak.

I assumed the "2" that proceeded the "49" was the month of manufacture, evidently it is the size.
