6000 reel red

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D :!: :?:  :type: I too have one of these with no sn on the foot, has the countrbalanced handle, red in color and a flat tail plate with 3 srews. has a rather unique large thumb screws on the take down side, and a rather wide spool! The foot on this one has and looks like small squares imbeded into the foot posibly to have a firmer grip on the rod seat? Well at least i am not alone on this style, and there is a book out on ambasodor reels wich I have loaned out so i cannot tell you what it says. Note i purchased my reel from Old dealer stock, and i was the first retail sale on this reel, Posible factory mistake? Respectfuly Col. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG Amherst Ohio USA

Ambass. 6000

Post by kalamareels »

In Simon Shimorura's "Ambassadeur and I" book, he says that many of the earlier 6000's were produced without serial number, had single counter balanced handle and were engraved "Abu Ambassadeur " insignia.
A clicker was added after initial production but no change in model numberwas made . Simon goes on to say that many records were lost relative to the serial numbers as there isn't any documentation. Simon's book is known for its in-depth study of serial numbers of Ambass. He shows the Ambass. 6000 produced 1956-57. See page 62.
