Greetings,
I have a bamboo 3 pc. fly rod which i have not used for a long time.
When i put it togather the ferrules are tight and it will not go in all the
way.I am afraid to force it in.Is there something i could do to make it better?.
P.S...Upon inspection of the ferrules (Male and Female)they look very clean and shiny.

Clean the inside of the female ferrule with denatured alcohol and a Q-Tip.

I would recommend that after you follow marks instructions, you put a little bar soap on the Male Ferrule and slowly put it into the female ferrule. pull it back out and re-insert more each time until it will go in all the way and pull out Easily. Go slow and don't force it! I got this tip from rod restorer, Michael Sinclair and have used it successfully on all my rods.

I respect Michael greatly and consider him a friend, but I think metal ferrules should be dry - any film inside tightens the interference fit.
I'm with Mark on denatured alcohol and q-tip.
I use Gulfwax on all my plastic ferrules.

a slight amount of soap, ivory, works wonders. buffing the male ferrule with some oooo steel wool
will also help. Dna and Q tip on female.

the problem with using abrasive is potentially over-abrading the male ferrule, which has no recourse.
I have one new 2/2 rod with persnickety ferrules - seems to have a temperature dependence on fit, and I live with it, because I know it will wear in over time.

I cleaned the male and female ferrules with Denatured Alcohol.
The fit was abit tight.Then i lubricated the male ferrule with liquid soap
and inserted the male into the female as far as it can go,using very gentle
force.Pulled the rod apart and lubricated the male again and this time it went
in further.I did that about 5 times and on the last attempt the male went it all the
way.Cleaned the ferrules again with Nenatured alcohol and put the rod togather.
The rod fits perfectly and when pulled apart it lets out a loud 'POP' sound.
