Hi Everyone- I am a real(no pun intended) amateur fisherman. I found at a recent church sale this reel in excellent condition still in the box with the manual. It works wonderfully and it is a joy to use. Any info on it and value would be greatly appreciated! If it is valuable, I will use it only for display purposes. Thanks in advance for any help!

Firestone Level Winding reel
Welcome
Welcome Wayne!
Firestone got into the sporting goods market for a brief period in the 1960s. They did not manufacture reels (as far as I know) but had makers brand them with the Firestone marking. The last Firestone reel I saw went for something like $30 on eBay; I know because I got sniped on it. Anyway, without seeing pictures it is very difficult but assuming it isn't radically different from what I've seen, and condition is good on both the reel and the box, I would say $40-$50 is not far off value. Maybe more.
Anyway, as a fisherman you clearly enjoy the reel, so I suggest you join ORCA and start up a new hobby! You could build a great collection of Firestone reels in a fairly short time, I suspect, and get to know a bunch of really nice men and women who love to fish, talk fishing, and most of all enjoy fishing reels and other vintage tackle. You could even use your Firestone at the vintage tackle competition at the ORCA national!
Good luck.
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd E.A. Larson

Wayne,
I second the good Doctor's thoughts. Your reel could have been made by Shakespeare or Bronson. Without pictures, it is impossiable to tell.
As for fishing with it, great idea. Best to use braided line as Mono will damage the levelwind line carrier with extended use.
As Todd said, come join us. It is an enjoyable experence.
