Moved? Really?
Moved? Really?
One one of the editors moved Arley’s ORCA convention note to another thread.
Really? The club has ONE meet a year and this is our most active thread. Let’s rethink that move for a minute. Adherence to rules without exception makes for a lack of member clicks in this instance, which can’t be a good thing.

Re: Moved? Really?
Mike,
I was the moderator that moved the threads to the "National Convention" section or forum. I didn't think it would be a problem as that's what the section is for (ok, we can loosen up and not follow the letter of the law, lol).
But, there are multiple ways to open up and view this board, along with a bunch of ways to be notified of new threads that are waiting to be viewed. In our experience, more member clicks happen when members know how to use the board features more. If users simply bookmark a particular part of the board, like this "Reel Talk" forum, and you only open this one up, that's one way but you risk missing out on a lot of other new threads.
The way I do it, and not saying you need to or it's the best way, is pretty simple. I bookmark the Index Page, also titled "Reel Talk" (that is confusing so I'll rename one or the other in a minute). I can see all of the sections of the board and which forum has new threads because they are highlighted with big yellow bells. I really don't think of the "Reel Talk" forum as "the busiest" because I'm looking at the whole board when I open it up. It just happens to be a general section so it catches the most activity. After I'm done reading the new threads in one forum, I open up the next. Some people just want a list of "unread threads" put in front of them and they can set their preferences to see just that. Either way, it's not likely either of us will miss anything because it's not like we have hundreds of posts a day.
If anyone else has suggestions about how to use this forum, please feel free to add your comments.

Re: Moved? Really?
Why not just leave threads as they are, instead of moving them around? That's how they can be easily missed and was the very reason I missed Arley's thread. Let's not make this another eBay, where the most simple of features become complexities.

Brian- I very, very much appreciate the job you do as board moderator. I understand it’s not an easy job. Thanks.

Re: Moved? Really?
I'm bookmarked similar to Brian, to the main Reel Talk page, although I'm continually logged in. My first step after the page comes up is to check out (click on) "View new posts" at the top left just above "ORCA Announcements". I'm pretty sure that, if you haven't dumped all your "Board Cookies", every post since the last time you visited comes up, so I think I seldom miss a post. Every once in awhile, if I'm wondering if I'm missing something, I'll click on "View unread posts" to the left of "View new posts". That way I know for sure I haven't missed something since I know I haven't deleted any "Board Cookies". I've been doing it that way just about since I started. It's simple and easy to stay up with any new discussions.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Re: Moved? Really?
Mark, it's because as many people complain that they don't like "complications", there are just as many that complain they don't like to scroll down the page through threads using the button and wheel on their mouse. We purposely moved away from the one page bulletin board because ORCAs intention is to preserve these conversations and the info in them. The board has an excellent search feature but the different forums make it easier to just look for things by scanning them. If anyone is concerned about missing anything, learn how to use the board features a bit more. If anyone noticed, I also added "2018" to the moved thread titles to help make searching for them in the future a little easier.

Thanks, Gary! I left Oahu for you, John and our flyfishing friend out in Kahaluu to battle over those yard sale finds. I'm on the Big Island now but racking up more miles looking for reels, lol.
