Heads up - first major work on JW Young

Post by Ron Mc »

no, not by me :P

I've been corresponding with author "Rupe" Attwood in the UK, who has completed the first major work on J.W. Young, to be released in October.

Short Article

Medlar Press - if you search the author Elwyn Attwood, you can reserve a copy of the book.

Ron,

Thanks for posting the link to that article on J.W. Young and Medlar Press! That should be a very interesting book and one I may have to seriously consider getting. Randy

you're quite welcome.
Notice there's a couple of other good ones coming out then, including the Harwood and Stanley ABU book.

The Young’s book should be excellent I have known Rupe for many years and he has put in the research. Don't hold your breath on the Abu book it is mainly a compilation of Abu catalogue with neither author having done any in depth research.
When the float book was being researched he was offered lots of info but ignored it.
The piece on Wadham floats has 6 mistakes on one page and when I pointed this out to the owner of the Medlar press he told me "that's what second editions are for". There are also two other books on Hardy from the same publisher one on Hardy reels. If anyone has John Drewett’s book you might ask the question why.

I should have pointed out that Keith Harwood wrote the float book.

I've said exactly the same thing about Hommel's book.

BTW, Stefan, I didn't see a Hardy reels book on Medlar's site. Can you give us more information?

Thanks.

Hardy Books

Post by Stefan Duma »

One of the guys doing the Abu Book is going to do 2 books on Hardy. One on reels and one on flies.
John Drewetts book took 15 years to write and this one will take 15 months I think.
Draw your own conclusions.
Medlar press is all about churning out books for profit look at the number of reprints of classic books they have done.
The same can be said for the Fly Fishers Classic libray and I think the US equivalent is the Derrydale press.
Having said that, Medlar do have a few gems in their catalogue. The Fly is a great book. Coxon’s reprint is one I bought due to the fact that the original is expensive and I refer to it lots.
