Pflueger reel
Is there any value to a Pflueger Templar 1419 3/4 ? can't find one that has sold on auction. Also what up with the fractions ? not sure how common this is or what it means but have I never seen this before, thanks. Mike

Mike: It's all about condition on that one...they were heavily used reels and often road hard and put away wet...i.e., lots of salt burn. However, they have pretty good finish and will clean up. Send me a pic or two when you're feeling bored and we'll see where we are...not a screamer, but worth a buck plus/minus 30, depending on condition.
John is right, the plating on that reel did not hold up well so there are a lot with corrosion on them still swimming around out there. If it has a little or fair amount of corrosion, I've seen them reach maybe $75 on the high end but around $30 - $45 is the average. If your reel is like new they seem to land anywhere in the $150 - $200 range on Ebay, depending on who's looking for one at the time. Add maybe $25 to 50 more if it has the box, tool kit and papers.
The fractions in the model number refer to the old size designation Pflueger used based on the amount of a certain size linen line a reel supposedly held. Although it wasn't very consistent throughout, the different fractions indicated increments of 50 yards. 1419 3/4 indicated the 400 yard size and otherse were: 1420 1/2 = 500, 1420 = 450, 1419 1/2 = 350, 1419 = 300, 1418 = 250, 1417 = 200
I should point out Pflueger made two versions of the Templar and I was assuming yours is probably the later one with the black bakelite plates, since you have detected the model number. They look very different and the earlier ones didn't have the model numbers on them, only the capacity number.
This is the later version (perhaps like yours) 1934 - 1950:

Earlier version - early 20s to 1934:
