Shakespeare Question
Last week an eBay auction closed for four old reels, 2 unnamed, a JC Higgins and a Shakespeare 'Star'. Shakespeare sold a Star model, the 1908 FE in the late 1950s-early 1960s but this was a very different reel, an old NLW with the Shakespeare medallion beneath the foot that said Model 1914. The name STAR was stamped across the headplate above the crank but with lettering that looked more Montague or Bronson, not like any other S. lettering. I considered the possibility it was a Frankenreel but its patina and tooling looked uniform.
My collection is light on catalogs in the 19-teens but the couple I have make no mention of this reel and I've never seen another like it. Does anyone else know anything about it? Here's a link to the completed auction:

Re: Shakespeare Question
The reel itself is a Montague, but that is surely a Shakespeare foot. I've never seen that before & didn't think a Shakespeare foot would fit a Montague.

Re: Shakespeare Question
From the position of the screws on the Shakespeare foot (which don't align with the lower pillars), I assume the foot was soldered on. As Don said, the reel itself is a Montague.
