What is the gear ratio on a Pflueger Akron 1895
What is the gear ratio on a Pflueger Akron 1895
I recently got this reel and it is in immaculate condition it is the free spool model and I’m thinking about using in on my northern pike and musky rod but I was wondering what the gear ratio was and I’ve not been able to find anything through all my searching. Thank you

Take a magic marker and put a small dot on the side of the spool. Now slowly turn the handle and count how many times the dot on the spool goes around before the handle comes back to where you started. That should give you the gear ratio...

So the mark went around 4 times for one full rotation of the handle

So you have a 4:1 ratio..Very slow,good for slow rolling a spinnerbait..

Actually it was closer to 3.5

I’m planning on using this for northern pike and musky fishing tossing large 7”-10” bucktails. I’m hoping the lower gear ratio has the extra torque to be able to reel in a heavy fish without feeling like I’m about to blow out my gears like on my Abu Garcia Black Max baitcaster

Im not a real good finesse fisherman so working the drag isn’t really my style, I’m more of a hulk smash ogre fisherman lol.
