Question Re: Appropriate Topics For This Board

Post by joe klaus »

I just learned this morning that Brian Purrone had passed. A non-ORCA member sent me an email and told me. I was totally shocked to get the news. Brian was truly one of the good guys in our hobby.

I thought to myself, how did I miss that? SURELY that was posted on Reel Talk. Brian was an active (or at least semi-active) member of this board and I knew that his passing would not go without notice.

So I used our "search" feature and discovered the news was posted on the Board designated for "Announcements". I rarely look at the Announcements board, and definitely not on a daily or even weekly basis.

Just my personal opinion (worth 2 cents) but I think the passing of one of our members (prominent or not) deserves to be posted on Reel Talk (which I assume is our most visited portion of the site).

Perhaps it was here originally but got moved to the Announcements board. What is our official policy regarding announcements of death of members? Is it wrong to post that news on Reel Talk?

Joe i usually open the forum and then click on “new posts”. There you will find a quick glance at all the newest posts to the board regardless of what category they are in. Sorted newest to oldest.
Its a feature im not sure many folks know we have. It really saves time and clicks.

Thanks Chris. I had not noticed that feature. I will definitely use it, and thanks again. Good idea.

Next to on its left is "View unread posts". I usually check that out once a week or so just in case I missed something in the new posts category.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

I am such a do-do. All of these years and I’ve never really taken the time to become fully acquainted with the features of this board. Thanks to Chris and Tom for setting me straight. Using their tips, I have found nearly an hours worth of reading tonight that was thoroughly enjoyable.

No problem at all, Joe, your suggestions are appreciated! And Thanks Chris and Tommy for the assist. Joe, Rest very assured that you are not alone when it comes to discovering and taking advantage of the features that this board has to offer. In Reel Talk and even my work, I find that when I learn a new software, I get into it as much as it becomes efficient for me personally but leave a lot on the table that's overlooked.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?
