By the way, here is a link to a longer thread on Classic Fly Rod Forum where an expert in vintage Orvis tackle asked me about the patent date on the rod tube cap.

Paul, thanks a million. I did not make that connection, but that’s likely the one for the rod tube, as well.
Now to figure out the connection or patent assignment between J. Davis and C.F. Orvis...
