sumco rishing reel

Post by denf2211 »

I recently ran across a reel and I was wondering if someone could tell me the approx. age and value. It is a SUMCO reel in good shape with original box. The box says no. 2257 on the outside as well as 4 brothers 4. Anyone familiar with it?

Hi, your Sumco was made by Pflueger and sold under their "economy" line, 4 Brothers 4. I don't have catalog info on this reel but their higher end Pflueger labeled reel which is almost the same, the Temco, was sold from 1928 to 1934. Although you mention that it is in good shape with the box, the reel's actual condition is hard to assess without seeing a photo of it. Lawson's Guide to Old Fishing Reels indicates prices for the reel alone between $15 and 45, depending on its condition. The box may be worth more than the reel, also depending on it's design. Maybe you could add another $25-45 for the maroon colored box if there were no holes, rips or tears.
