Macy's Associates Reel ...

Post by reelsmith. »

This reel came with a Penn catalog (#15) jammed in the box and a tube of boxed Penn grease. But, the reel looks like it is Ocean City to me ?

Do you know who made it ?

I've never seen a Macy's reel before and see none on FleaBay, past or present. Goggle turned up a whopping four examples.

Are they uncommon ?

Thanks for any help you can lend.

Nice reel! It bears a strong resemblance to Ocean City's J.C. Higgins No.311.3171 and Striper King No.333, but with (what looks like) a narrower spool.

Paul Manuel was nice enough to send me the article on Macy's Associates reels written by Dr, Todd that appeared in the July 2007 Reel News. Thanks Paul !

The article confirms this reel was made by Ocean City, Circa 1956. It does not say which Ocean City model it is.

Was “Macy’s Associates“ the trade name used post-WW II later by R.H. Macy & Co.?

I just received this rod back from Dr. Elder who performed his usual quality rehab and cleaning.
