Gaining Access to the Library

Post by NJFisherman »

I'm sure this is easy and I've probably just forgotten how but I can't seem to access the library. I see the post about logging in via the store and have done that. I also see that it appears that Reel Talk access for members is separate/different from the library. Anyway I think the library is certainly secure from the average person, so that's good. Can someone direct me to the right person for help? Thanks,

It can be trying. Probably couldn't be any more complex. The times I end up in the Library, I don't even know how I got there.

Haha! Thanks - it wasn't too difficult. I sent a note via the "Contact Us" form on the ORCA website and within about an hour Matt Wickham added me. All set now.

We had this discussion a few months ago. Let’s hope some day we can get an intuitive route to the ORCA library to replace the Byzantine path we now have. Something like a shortcut “Log In For Library” button.

You have to remember that you need to log into your store account to access the library.

With that said, and then done, I don't know how they can make the instructions any easier to follow than with these, Paul even installed a video tutorial.

I'm pretty challenged on a computer so if I can figure it out just about anybody should be able to get there, it's not that difficult. :)
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Tommy, I agree, those are good instructions. However I was not able to login even though I've been a member for 15 years. I did not not have a "member store account" and did not know what it was (it's for club members only and thus different from Reel Talk which is open to the general public). That said, Matt Wickham set me up real quick and I was in - Thanks Matt!. One more little tidbit - when you download a file you need to rename it by adding ".pdf" to the end, otherwise your computer cannot read it.

The library is a super nice asset and I think could attract more members too, but not sure how to market it off-hand. The potential seems to be there though.

Just wanted to add a few notes. Our librarian has not been able to work on the site much lately due to personal reasons, but Ron and I have a plan to clean up some things. Most of the library files have the proper PDF file extension, but some still need to be updated. If you cannot open a file locally, just change the extension to PDF.

We also have plans to enhance the library functionality to make it easier, but in the meantime, just remember to login to orcaonline and tell it to "remember you". Your store/library user ID may or may not be the same as your Reel Talk ID, which is a constant source of some confusion. The user ID is whatever you set it up to be, if you have questions contact me.

Thanks, Matt.

Never really got to thank you for making the dreaded virtual ORCA Nationals 100X better than I ever expected. Don’t spoil us too much, though, or we will all check in to the show hotel next year and trade reels on line.

Sure is nice to have fellows like you, Matt, and Paul around these past couple of years to make things like the library available and make additions to our website. "Complicated" is relative, especially when it never existed only a couple years ago.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

I want to add my thanks to you folks for all you have done to drag ORCA into the new normal! The Virtual Nationals really worked well and Ron picking up the slack with our eBay sale site has made a tremendou$ difference in making the best return for generous donations by our members. I have great hopes that by next Labor Day, we will be able to have a “real” Nationals in San Diego and I Am proceeding with our preparations with that intent. However, this past experience has demonstrated that we can have a great event if it needs to be Virtual. It’s gonna happen one way or the other, Folks!
