Packard 3517c
Packard 3517c
Looking for any information on this reel It is a Packard 3517c. I believe it is a Bronson trade reel.
The name Packard and model number are on the inside of the reel. It engraved on both ends. I can not find another reel like this. The other Packard 3517 I have found are not engraved and the name and model number are on the face plate.

Yes, made by Bronson for Marshall Wells Hardware, in the few years leading up until WWII. Go to ORCA's Research page and click on Bronson Reel Homepage, where you'll find photos and descriptions of the entire Packard series.

Thanks I was not aware of this page, I will be using this in the future. How rare is this reel and a value in your opinion.
God bless

Can't speak to value, but they don't come up every day. Wouldn't call them rare, though. I sold one in the original box a couple years ago.
Re: Packard 3517c
There's an article I wrote on Marshall Wells trade reels including the complete line of Packard reels that was published a few years back in the Reel News, and is available from the ORCA Library.

Go to the Orcaonline.org homepage, select the store menu https://www.orcaonline.org/orca-store/ and the library is inside the online store. The online ORCA library is a self-serve benefit for ORCA members. You have to buy an ORCA membership and then set up a store account in order to download files of interest. ORCA membership gets you a subscription to the Reel News and other member benefits like the library access and annual convention privileges. It's worth every penny if you like old reels. Look here for info on New ORCA Membership and setting up an online ORCA Store account. Joining mid-season gets you recent back issues of the Reel news.
