Penn Senator 1/0 with a Long Beach Left side plate?

Post by Silver1 »

Friends,

Just bought my first 1/0 but it came with a left side plate that has a graphic of a fishing boat with 5 rods in the air and says "Long Beach Live Bait Caster." This makes no sense to me. A Long Beach has a larger diameter, doesn't have beauty rings and doesn't have graphics, that I've ever seen.

Thanks for any help.

It's likely a side plate from the Long Beach 259, a great early reel that had the name in addition to the 60-series reels

John is right on the money. The 259 Long Beach Live Bait Caster tailplate which is interchangeable with a 1/0 Senator. Its likely that the original tailplate was broken at one point.

John and Chris, Thank you for your deep knowledge. It seems a mix of parts from different Penn reels must be kind of common. I was given a Long Beach 60 with an interior beauty ring on the handle side and no rings on the tail plate. And the tail plate has the early cross-hatched clicker. Probably didn't start out life together.
