My New Website

Post by RonG »

I've been spending these last few months during this isolation exercise to create a new website. My new website is essentially the same as my old website except it was created using the WordPress program. My older website used html and CSS language which gets rather cumbersome. WordPress is now the world recognized website creation program. The best way to learn WordPress is to just dig in and start. I learned a lot of about WordPress while working on the ORCA website. Paul got me started and Matt helped me when needed. My old website is https://luresnreels.com and my new one is https://reelsnlures.com. That's easy to remember, right?

To give you an idea of the new WordPress site, I have just completed adding info about Hendrick and the "Star Reel Works." You can see this webpage at this link https://reelsnlures.com/a-hendrick-the- ... ingham-ct/. Thanks to Steve's earlier work and Alan and Colbey's Trademark info I was able to add some interesting details.

Very solid new website, Ron. Loads of information. Thanks for sharing all that history with the public. It can only help the collecting hobby.

It was great seeing the Talbot, Welch and Foss tournament casting reels under their makers names. Perhaps one day you or another website can add a separate tab just for tournament reels. There are some great books on the sport itself, but I don’t think there is any definitive book or place on the internet devoted to the aesthetics of tournament casting reels from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. It would be nice to see the side-by-side comparisons, especially of the unknown home machine shop makers.

Thanks again from all of us collectors.

Great site, Ron. I've already been on them both, as I comb the internet for info on old reels. Just great info, documentation, and wonderful images.

By the way, if anyone has a catalog or ad showing the fancy Hendrick reel, please let me know. We need to disseminate info to collectors. Knowledge of reels helps understand more about who made them. Please share if you have this reel info. Thanks.

Thanks Ron! Great information as always. I do have one of the Hendricks reels marked AB Shipley. Something about these reels spoke to me even before I new who made them.

Looks great Ron !

I use WordPress for my site and found it pretty easy to understand the basics. After playing with it for a day or two I was off and running with no help. I am sure you now know a lot more about it than I do !

info about Hendrick and the "Star Reel Works."

Agreed...and the more complete info, the better. Pretty site. Of course, Hendrick spent years making reels under various company names before Star Reel Works was established. There are a few additional details in this article, online for over twenty years: http://www.antiquefishingreels.info/Articles/StarRW.pdf
And some pics showing the evolution of his reels have been available here: https://hendrickreels.weebly.com/

BTW, the name of the "fancy Hendrick reel" is on pg. 264 of my book. Also BTW, despite the trademark notice, Boothe's name was spelled with an "e."

Thanks for the compliments and information. I've heard that a Hendrick catalog exists. Does anyone know who has it? Thanks, Ron
