Laurentian Mfg Co vs Lawson Machine Works

Post by Tom R »

Are these the same company? I see the Lawson Machine Works manufactured a reel called the Laurentian Dry Fly reel and have seen numerous photos of this reel. The reel I have is marked Made in Canada, Laurentian Mfg Co, Montreal on the foot and does not look like any of the Lawson Laurentian reels I found online and has no others markings on it unlike the Lawson Laurentian which has the model name, etc on the front plate. It looks like the only way to disassemble this reel is by removing the pillar screws to lift off the front and rear tail plates. This reel also has a two knob crank. Just curious if anyone can shed some light on this reel.

My guess is that Lawson made the reel. He owned the Laurentian trademark. When I researched Lawson and wrote the Reel News Article I had one of these reels but couldn’t find anything about Laurentian Mfg co. It may have existed on paper but it’s not easy for a remotely located Anglophone getting old company info on Quebec companies.

Thanks for the information Paul. What issue of the Reel News was your article in?

Issue 2, 2017- The Reel Connection between Lawson Machine Works and Burlington Metal Products.
My article mentions this reel. Most of the reel pics are on my website. Pics of the reel marked Laurentian Mfg Co are in the gallery on this page https://reelyoldreels.weebly.com/more-l ... -info.html
