A Cause for Concern?????????

Post by piscesman »

I don't know if this a trend going on but thought I'd give my 2 cents. Also would like to hear from the rest of you concerning this. A recently went to the NFLCC show in Albany ,New York. I usually get there around 9:30 to check over the "goods". Even thought it is a sanctioned lure show reels and paper are abundant. Last year they even had an auction at the end. It was GREAT!This year I arrived a little late, approx 11:30. When I arrived I ran into a long time member. He was packing his car and leaving. When I asked why so early. NO one came... I thought it odd but figured he was itching to get home. Once inside, nobody at the admission table. Hmmm, strange. Went to the rooms and found 3 members there and all were about completely packed. Double HHHMMM! They too said, "no business". So I went out of there empty handed and not by my choice. My question to you out there. Is this an isolated incident or are people really not coming to shows like they used to. Waiting to hear from you.

Kim,
Rule # 1. If you are going to an NFLCC show, GO EARLY! They were there, maybe not as many as before, waiting for the doors to open at 7 A.M. or whenever the starting time was, but packed up at 11 A.M. and eating lunch on the way home. Been that way around Missouri for years. I'll not try to list the reasons as there are many, but I think for the most part it's becoming wide spread. Luckily there are a few great exceptions!

I haven't been back East to an NFLCC show for sometime. Almost all the ones I attended were Friday-Sat shows. Believe me, Its was not much fun getting stuck there Saturday waiting for the long plane ride home Sunday. Almost everyone was wrapped, packed and gone by 11:00 am Saturday. NOw, on the private shows advertised to the public with specified times. I.e., Open at 8:00 am , closed at 4:00. Should be run just like a regular antique show with strict take down times. You pack up early, you wont be invited back. One of my best purchases came at the Santa Rosa Show about 12 years ago. Russ wilson and I were the absolute only persons still left in the hall at 3:30 pm. Show was advertised as being open till 4:00 pm. Gentleman comes in with a bag of lures and some reels to sell. The lures were all in the box and the reels were high end Vom Hofe's. Russ collected reels and I collected lures. I donlt think either of us has left a show early since when we can attend.
