Examples of Air Light Reels?
Looking for examples or jpegs of examples of Air Light Reels, especially the 2:1 multiplying versions. These are all plastic-bodied reels. An example of a single multiplying Air Light Reel is shown below for reference. The handle on the double multiplying reel MAY be offset, but please check rotations if you have any examples. Also would like to see colors and different designs and graphics of front covers. Thanks!

Re: Examples of Air Light Reels?
They made those crazy things right here in my home town. The ones I've seen still have that label on them. I figure most didn't get much use.

Re: Examples of Air Light Reels?
Todd and Tommy, thanks. Yes, the listing in the 1954 Fisherman's Handbook and a few ads are the only print records I can find for thes reels They advertised the double multipliers, but I can't recollect seeing one and do not have any pictures of one. Air Light Products started life in 1946 as a fishing bobber and accessory company. They are still in business as Airlite Plastics. I've tried reaching out to a number of the people at the company but haven't found anyone who can fill me in on the fishing reel manufacturing or detailed early history of the company. Trying to learn more. Looking for info, jpegs, or suggested contacts. Thanks!

Dr. Todd answered a query via Field & Stream 10 years ago. There's a nice photo of a reel & box in that article. Air Lite Plastics, i.e. Products, is still in business today, privately owned. They're located @ 6110 Abbott Dr., about 2 blocks from Eppley Air Field. They started down town with the "Blue Button Bobber" in 1946. You can read about their growth and expansion here.

Re: Examples of Air Light Reels?
Thanks all. The catalog is great. I have Bill Hinton and I are trying to wrap up a summary history of the company and reels. Yes, they started life as a bobber company. Still have not found an example of the 543, the reel with the interchangeable spool. Interested in seeing the spool retention mechanics. Anybody with an example, please contact me. Thanks!

Can't wait for the article! Love getting these little companies histories down. I'll look through some Sporting Goods Dealers for it, too.
