Anyone recognize this pinion gear design with the pin and slotted gear to fit?
I'd mention the branded reel but don't want sully the opinions.
Thanks for your help.
Yes John, I didn't understand the reason for that and considered it just uncleaned waste from a spinning spool durning the soldering process as I see the same, but a very much cleaner job, under the click gear. I'll post a pic later.
It seemed to me to be a signature, original design as the reel is not of the quality to warrant an after market replacement or a special order.
And here's the trade mark on the face plate:
Top arched text "ALLRIGHT", center quil-L logo and bottom straight line text "PENNELL".
I have it ID'd as an 80yd., Enterprise Manuf. Co. No604J, page 171 in the 1907-8 cat., a match it appears to me.
So I'm currently twisting and turning down the Pennell rabbit hole and looking forward to continued discussion/direction.
Steve, i believe your reel was made for Pennel by Montague. They sold reels made by various companies. That method of wedding gear to spindle was common. With other reels, the gear is affixed permanently, probably press-fit.

Yes, Tryon claimed use of that trade mark years before the patent date. One cat shows an "ALLRIGHT" illustration, 1913,pg 24. I don't think you can patent a "name" but everybody sure can use it! I've a couple marked "WATERWITCH", with no trade mark, another Tryon reel "name".
