South Bend No. 20 Model A
Hello everyone,
First, let me just say thank you for having me here, this is such a wonderful site with so many knowledgeable people. Please forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place, but I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me a little bit about this vintage reel that I just purchased, a South Bend No. 20 model A. I'm not really a collector so to speak, I'm just a fisherman who loves old things and wanted a good vintage reel that I could actually fish with. Monetarily, I know my reel isn't worth much at all, but I'm not worried about that in the least since I plan to use it for fishing. What I really would like to know, if anyone can help me, is the approximate years it might have been made, and its approximate age. It needs a good cleaning and oiling, but aside from that, it appears to be in good condition and works perfectly as far as I can tell. Can anyone tell me anything about this particular model? Thanks so much for any help!

Its simple if you follow the instructions… do it once and you are an expert:
1. Hit the image upload button
2. Hit the green add files on left and govto your library and select pics
3. Hit the blue upload all
That will give you two urls for each pic… one regular size and one snapshot… click on the regular url for each pic
4. Post
If the pics didn’t upload, they are too big and you need to size them, but limits are pretty large

Woohoo! You are now an expert!!
ORCAn Jim Madden wrote THE book on South Bend and he indicates the 20A with the Famous in Fishing logo was made from 1939-42. But he also discusses the #20 Best o Luck reel that was made with several changes for a much longer period. Yours has the Famous in Fishing logo.
