This original US patent, issued in January of 1947 for a windshield wiper style level-wind mechanism, found its way to my door and I can't seem to find the reel (if it was ever made) that Louis Tschus of Columbus Ohio designed and might have built. The mechanism seems to work somewhat like the Heddon 4-15 and 4-18 reels in that its level-wind arm has a similar sweep of motion only the gearing that moves the arm is quite a bit more complicated.
Does anyone know of a reel that this mechanism might have been incorporated into?
Mr. Pie, I read your splendid level-wind article that mentioned Tschus but no mention of a reel that incorporated his design? Have you any info on Tschus reels? Trying to find out anything about Tschus is becoming a real pain in the tuchus.
As cool as original patents are I am not married to this one. Is it of any special interest to anyone?
