Hello Everyone, my name si Rob and this is my first post.
Recently while emptying my grandmother's attic I found an Ocean City "Ranger" fishing kit with Cat. Number K 476. The research I did on the internet to find out what it was led me to this page of ORCA website (which also seems like the only one to have any info on it): https://www.orcaonline.org/ocean-city-e ... but-reels/
As you can see the "Ranger" in the pictures comes in a blue box, but the one I found has a silver one.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on this kit and if it may be of any particular value to collectors, or if it's something I can gift away or throw out.
Please let me know,
Rob
Thank you for having me here on the message board.
Hi, Rob. Nifty find. I don’t know much about Ocean City tackle. It looks like a lower line introductory outfit, So, there may not be much of a following for the particular rod or reel. The kit is in very nice condition though! Attractive item. One thing you could do is check eBay and other auction sites for info and possible value of other such rods and kits.
Nice find! I doubt that it is extremely valuable but I sure wouldn't throw it out. The are plenty of Ocean City collectors out there that would love to add it to their collection.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels!(Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
These kits were introduced in 1948, in the Ocean City catalog. They were offered until 1952 I feel that a ballpark value would be around $100 for one as nice as yours.
They are not easy to find. When they are found, they are usually not anywhere near the condition of yours and many times there are missing parts. If I were selling it, I would ask $100. A good place to offer it for sale would be on the Vintage Ocean City Reels page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/3318472134934956
Here is their introduction in the 1948 catalog. This catalog is the first catalog issued after World War II.
mike cass,,, if you can't collect it, it must be food
Thank you all for the replies, I'm sorry I didn't answer any time sooner but the notifications to your answers were going straight to the spam folder, so I only logged on now.
All very useful information, I can't thank you enough, you were all very kind!
Best wishes, and until the next find!
Rob
