five spot and use it for the Jan. issue, I know you`re not the problem
just the #$[at]% post office $#[at]#$%%^^&&^#[at]#[at] !

Post Office
Why is it that for the last 5 years, the reel news came on the same day every other Mo. Now it's a Mo. Late. I don't think the PO office is that bad. If so, maybe we should go to second class carrier sorted.

Bill: If you got your Reel News OK for five years when it was mailed from Idaho by bulk mail, and now you aren't, why would you say it's not the fault of the USPS?
The only thing that has changed is the fine service you got from a post office in a small state with dedicated workers to the lousy service you get in major metropolitan areas. Why should ORCA have to pay more to correct lousy service from some regional sorting center.
As I've stated before on these pages, all the mixed states bulk mailing travels with first class mail. Your Reel News is being held back somewhere. So is mine.

Jack: The one thing you are not taking into account is the burden you are placing on Richard and Roger Schulz. If some members order their RN by first class mail then a sorting method will have to be devised for the labels so that these 1st class copies can be sorted out and placed in envelopes for delivery. I think this is an ORCA Board decision, not individual members.

Complain, Complain, Complain! Some people would kick if they were in swimming.
Take this into account:
I re-joined the NFLCC at the National at the end of July and haven't recieved ANYTHING yet. If all my fingers are still there, that is four months. How long would our members put up with Roger if it took him four months to send you your membership packet? It is funny, or maybe human nature, that how many time have you heard, "I recieved my 'Reel News" today and read it cover to cover!" Try this, Just read one page a day and it will last longer thus making the next one arrive, in what seems to be, quicker. If someone is so intent on having something to read, go buy a newspaper or a good book. Do research. The Library has plenty of material to look at. (Is that a shameless plug or what?) Or, I can let you read my new Medicare booklets so you will be as comfused as I am.
Keep up the good work, Richard, and use ear plugs if you need too.

REEL NEWS
Harvey:
Thanks for the kind words. I do try and respond to letters, emails, or calls within one to three working days. However, when I travel for my job, it sometimes becomes difficult. I also do one to two mail runs a week to mail out new member materials and ORCA Store materials. I agree with you Harvey, if I sent someone a check to join an organizaton, I would want to hear something back within a week or two.

Is there anywhere at the USPS in particular that we can file a complaint (that will be effective)? Sorry if I'm asking to go over it again. I have not received either my NFLCC G*bass*ette or the Reel News either. I agree with ReelGeezer that members shouldn't impose more of a burden on the Editor or Secretary by asking for separate mailings. At the rate USPS delivers, however, we might have to change the date on the Reel News to one month later and mail two months ahead! My other beef with the USPS is that having the magazine in the system that long really beats the tar out of it.
Aside from these problems that are purely the fault of USPS, Great Job with the Reel News and making this organization top notch!

Hi y'all,
I haven't received my Reel News in Cincinnati yet--I'm not complaining so this is not a criticism of Richard or Roger. Just found it ironic that today the government passed a price hike of .02 for a first class postage stamp. Now it costs .39 to send a letter, does anyone know if the price of Priority and Bulk Mail is increasing as well?
I think Brian's idea is a fine one. Change the dates on the magazine from Nov. to December but mail tham out at the same time, that way everyone will get their Reel News before Dec. 01 and rave at how great the service is.
Patiently waiting,
Dr. Todd

I've always suspected that mail that has to pass through NYC has a good chance of being delayed, but I have no idea if that's relevant here. I've also had many instances of first-class mail taking 5-7 days to get from Pa. to Wash. state and to some addresses in the midwest.
Maybe the Board could look into finding another class of mail that would be cheaper than first-class but less likely to be ignored by local POs. I tried checking the USPS site, but it verges on incomprehensible. Seems to me that the worst problem might be having to use envelopes. 5 of the 6 yearly issues weigh less than 4 oz., and it looked to me as if the worst-case postage increase would run less than $6/member/year. If Geezer can remember back that far, maybe he could confirm this or let me know if I'm off my rocker.

Why do we go thru this every couple months? All the complainin' don't get it to your mailbox any faster. I have a solution: Ban all post about the "Reel News" from this board unless you want to talk about it AFTER you recieve it. How about having Richard keep track of those who complain and then when the next issue is to be sent out, just hold those guy's for an additional week before mailing. I bet the problem would stop in no time. What did everybody do before we had this message board? Did you call Phil or Ed Corin to see if it was mailed yet? Rember the old saying, "What you don't know, won't hurt ya!". Well, maybe Richard shouldn't tell us when it is due to be mailed. That would cut about a week of the complaining out.

GOT MINE!
I like knowing it was mailed. Kinda wets my appetite. My copy arrived November 14th in Bronson, Michigan. It had an ink/grease smear over the cover. No food stains. The inside condition was fine, just not enough talk of those wonderful Bronson Reels.
Reel News arrived in Tennessee Nov 12. Front Cover was bent over, with some grease too, but inside ok.
Just an incredibly great issue! I think all you authors should be proud of your work. All started with an excellent letter from Pres Andy Foster, and a fine Back Seat summary by our editor Richard Lodge. The inside articles are just outstanding. Biggest surprise - Phil and his forward looking article. A great front cover could be a Calender Cover too...
Thanks to all.
Dale.

Harvey, you're right: more information is not necessarily better in this case. But I think you have it the other way around - the guys and gals that get their copies and announce how great the issue is sets off everyone that's still waiting. The simple solution is: no one is to say anything about their reel news until 1 year after receiving it! (you realize I'm joking, of course, and not meaning any complaints to be directed at the Editor/Club!)

First I would like to say what a great job Richard and the board do for ORCA... I was talking to a fellow ORCAn the other day and he was saying how really LATE his NFLCC magazine issue was (month overdue so that ads for events had already passed). I am sure that the NFLCC folks are trying their best too... wonder where THEY are mailing out of.
Now as of today, !7th? I haven't seen my Reel News... but I am out here in the sticks (outback of Texas) and stuff often seems to take a full three, five or seven days more to get here... guess I need to quit feeding the deer and put the burro back on turbo feed. And considering how long some packages I mailed up to Canada have taken lately, they need to put the sled dogs and beaver (whatever delivery systems they have) up there on some high-pro diets too...full week and half to two weeks on top of the estimate given at the post office when mailed.
WE ALL KNOW the problem is in the postal system... problem is WHERE in the postal system. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it which is the frustrating part of it AND makes it almost impossible for our guys to come up with a "work around" (they shouldn't have to) for speedier delivery... who knows we may discover that mailing out of a diffrent local post office can put things through a diffrent "HUB" (most likely where all the problems are in this equation) and a diffrent set of folks will get theirs later than others... I think back when it WAS coming out of Idaho there were some that got delivered rather later than others... if I remember it was discovered that larger bundles were sorted or sent diffrent than smaller bundles... so if you were in an area with lots of ORCA folks it changed how you were "bundled" and sorted at some mail hub...I don't pretend to understand anything about how the postal system works (or doesn't) but I would like to nominate Col. Milt for postmaster Gen. maybe that will fix the problem... or at least start in on the keister kicking that it may need to get to the root of the troubles.
Personally I try NOT to watch the calendar too close and then I get a pleasant surprise in my mailbox when a Reel News shows up...
OR here is an idea: When you get your Reel News... rather than posting the information here (making everyone else wonder where theirs is) have a list of other ORCA members you actually phone up to tell/talk about it... (new folks each issue) that way we increase communication between members and the folks that don't yet have their issue get a couple of phone calls from fellow members to chat about reels (and fill the time while they wait for their reel news in a more productive way).
ok
it was just a though...

COULD YOU TELL I HADN'T READ THE WHOLE THING?
Am I ever embarassed about my post earlier. Said there wasn't enough Bronson mentions in this months Reel News. Can you tell I look for Bronson in the title? Had some free time and started reading articles about the other reels out there and found a couple of neat references to Bronson.
Thanks for the education! I could keep quiet about a Reel News issue for a year. Just once though I'd like to be the first person to say he got his issue.
Cold here in Bronson. Shoveled the snow off the leaves then raked them to the curb. Hope they aren't still there in the Spring.
Michigan vs Ohio State and Michigan State vs Penn State I'll be watching football tomorrow. Good time to grab a couple of reels that need cleaning. 'cept the cleaning compound on my hands makes the chips taste funny. Beer usually helps get that taste out of my mouth.
Stay warm!

Great job on the articles in the Reel news, Folks. Based on that article re the anti-back-lash fight, they must have had fewer lawyers in those days...don't think today's manufacturers would waste even an hour writing letters!
And Dave..there's a wonderful button on each of our posts..up there in the right hand corner...as the king of the "wish I hadn't hit send" posters, I've found the "edit" button to be of great utility!

Now I am troubled!
From reading these posts, I can't decide if receiving your reel news when ever it gets here is better than livin' out in the Sticks as Ms 'El" stated or having to shovel snow as per Mr. O'Rourke complaints show as being the choices. I really can't make up my mind!
Wait a minute! TV just said "Gamma" is heading my way! Darn, It may be another two weeks before the mail runs again and then another week before we get lights! I guess I will have to get up early in the morning and go to the beach so I won't think about it.

And so, is that what the "E" stands for when I read a post from John E.? EDIT? And I thought it was something professional!
