A&F, VL&A, VL&D forum

Hello ORCA Members,

I'm Patrick, I'm an archivist for Abercrombie and Fitch! Appreciate being a part of the ORCA membership, and hope this forum might help in identifying some of the pieces I come across, as well as help any of you interested in any information on those brands; since I have access to quite a bit of catalogs and other info. I am a beginner when it comes to understand reels and fishing, so I am trying to learn more about some of the items I have been able to curate or come across.

This first one I am posting is a reel I was able to get. I am trying to date it, name it, and determine its use. My estimation is it is from the 1920's, and the closest thing I can find is this from a 1925 catalog, but calling on any of you to possibly point me in a better direction.

Happy to also look up anything else when I have time

Your pictured reel is a Julius vom Hofe trout reel not the reel that you pictured from the catalog. That reel is a salmon reel made by Edward vom Hofe, Julius' brother.
If you look at the reel foot it will have a 1/8" hole in the center. The reel is found in Julius vom Hofe catalogs as early as 1911.

+1
Sould have a number stamped on the underside foot as well, indicating the size.
