Bretton 602
Anyone familiar with Bretton 602 reels. i have 3 in my collection and am concerned about removing the handle to access anti rev dog. On all 3 i cannot get the screw inside main gear to turn (at all) and fear buggering screw head. after much soaking w/penetrating oils and unsuccessful attempts i am stymied. any help out there from anyone familiar with Bretton handle removal? thanks

Can you see the end of the threaded shaft of the screw? Sometimes they whack it with a prick-punch to expand it so it won’t come loose. You would see some sort of indentation. And for sure it is not a left-hand threaded screw?

If you are talking about the screw that attaches the oscillation arm to the main gear, it is reverse thread, turn right to loosen. That screw is usually reverse thread on Italian made reels, too.
As far as removing the crank handle and main gear, you'll need a correct size punch to first remove the pin. Close inspection with a magnifier should tell you which way to drive it out. Once the pin is removed you can remove the notched nuts. That's best done with an appropriate size pair of spanner wrenches, but it can be done with screwdrivers by carefully tapping them. When you reinstall the nuts you have to make sure the inner nut it positioned correctly so that the main gear is positioned correctly and isn't too tight or too loose before you install the outer locking nut.
Good luck, it's not a difficult job, just a little tedious to get it back together & working correctly.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Thanks Guys. The oscillating bar screw was it’d as left hand thread, and was removable on all. Inside the main drive gear I see a slotted screw head that one would think attaches the handle assembly. This is the screw that will not budge.
I will investigate the pin and locking rings as a means to remove handle. Is anyone aware of a schematic for this reel?
