Mystery roller guides, ID help

Post by sea ghost »

Does anybody know what company or have any info on who made these roller guides?

I’ve seen these on a few golden Sabre Rail Rods from the 1970’s and 80’s usually used was the double roller stripper guide.

Thank you

Sea Ghost. Based on the rod they are on, a Sabre made out of southern California, they are most likely AFTCO. Sabre exclusively used AFTCO roller guides in the 1970s through the 1990s. I am not sure after that. These are "early" guides as the guide from the mid-1980s through 90s had curved bodies.

Another company by the name of Varmac also used to make roller guide, reel seats, but caps, etc back in this time.

I hope this helps.

Terry

Sea Ghost, if it's not pressing, I know of two people who would definitely know. It might take a couple of days though to get ahold of them

Sea Ghost, with any amount of luck I should have your answer sometime Monday
Ross

"They are very early AFTCO guides" is the answer I got from the source. Never thought to ask about year and I think they assumed I knew. I remember seeing them in the early 70's on factory-built Rock Cod poles when fishing deep water in the winter months was the norm. Terry could probably age them more closely.

Hey Sea Ghost :)
I edited my last message with the information yesterday, but I guess edits don't show as new. They are very early AFTCO
