For the Penn Historians

Post by seruga »

After reading Michael C's book I cannot find a reference to this reel. It is a Penn Ocean Side Regal 250 with some unique features. Some may be original while others may have been added over the course of time. The most perplexing items are the absence of an oiler bearing, the front handle plate logo emboss showing model 50 instead of model 80 and the embossed PENN rear plate. The obvious other differnce is the absence of handle lock oiler screw. I have not yet opened up the reel to inspect the inner workings. I will do that If it is necessary in order to gather your opinions.

Is this one of those rarest of the rare items or just an ordinary rare item?

I forgot one additional point. This reel is not a free spool reel.

Mystery solved! Mike C responded with some terrific information. This is a 1941 trade reel - I shoud have spotted that with the "regal" name in the emblem. ORCA and it's members are first class. What a great organization.
