New Member Intro: "Saluki"

Hi, All!

I'm basically a refugee from the Fishing Talks forum that shut down when the company running it and about 60 other forums shut down. Really, I'm just a near 70 angler more than a real (pun?) collector -- mostly I do spincast bank fishing, but I fairly often use a few baitcasters and an occasional spinning reel too. I prefer to use older and non-Chinese reels when practical. My "collection" is probably under 50 reels, maybe 3 dozen or so are in good working condition or are not problematic in some way. I have more Johnson reels than anything else, with Zebco coming in 2nd. Abu and Daiwa might be tied for 3rd.

I live in the mid-South USA, mostly fishing in Southern IL and Western KY, which despite some excellent fishing here, and many a nifty "off the beaten path" spot, do not get much visibility outside of KY Lake and Lake Barkley.

Several of my reels I'd like to get back into use, so I may be asking questions about them when I get a bit of time. However, given the option of a nice evening and the choice of getting out and wetting a line, or working on a reel with a problem... The former takes precedence! :D

Welcome Saluki. I look forward to hearing about your reels. While as you mentioned, most of the people here are collectors, almost everyone wets a line from time-to-time. We tend to focus on the details of the reels, but all viewpoints are welcome. Good luck!

Thanks!

The pic above, BTW, is of myself and my daughter @ Devils Kitchen Lake, In S. IL, a few years ago. The pic was taken by my wife and IIRC was used by Crab Orchard Refuge on their website for a little while. :)

Welcome, Saluki. Sweet photo! Your wife did a nice job with that one. Beautifully composed.

Do you have Saluki's? My family had a Borzoi, once upon a time.

Hi, Paul! No, we don't have "Salukis", although I often wish we still had the old Shepherd mix that adopted us for a while before he died of simple old age. He was great with people and great for guarding my daughter's little flock of free range chickens / deterring varmints (mainly raccoons, skunks, and opossums) without bothering the chickens. Daughter san has a couple cats that go outside a lot but they are not fool enough to take on any of those...

When I was a kid, we had a collie (true collie, not border collie) that would run down rabbits by sheer speed and agility. THAT was impressive. I imagine a real Saluki would be even better at it.

Me, I'm just an alumni.

Yes, wifey takes some really good pics... :)
